New KBV quality circle module on providing care to people with Long COVID and ME/CFS
In autumn 2025, the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) published a new quality circle module for continuing medical education. It addresses the care of people with Long COVID and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).
Quality circles offer an opportunity for doctors and psychotherapists to exchange views on important topics with practical relevance. The KBV supports this type of continuing education by providing quality circle modules with appropriate recommendations for action as well as practical materials such as case studies and checklists.
The new module on Long COVID and ME/CFS is based on existing scientific evidence as well as the recommendations contained in the Long COVID guideline, which was published by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) in December 2023. It gives participants basic information on the definition, diagnosis and treatment of the diseases. A particular focus is placed on the specific needs of people with post-exertion malaise (PEM) and multi-disciplinary approaches to ensuring adequate care.
With its service, the KBV aims to raise awareness among doctors and psychotherapists about Long COVID and ME/CFS and help ensure those affected receive care in line with the latest scientific findings.
